How do you say Tortilla?

Tortilla’s the name and burritos are our game! But have you been saying our name right this whole time? We put some burrito lovers to the test – check out this video to see what they had to say…

The word Tortilla comes from the Spanish word torta – meaning round cake. It’s said that in the sixteenth century, the Spaniards gave the name tortilla to the flat bread they found in Mexico among the Aztecs! True story (we think).

While you would look at the word and think it’s pronounced tor-till-ah, we’re sorry to say amigos – you’ve been saying it wrong! Because of its Spanish origins, the double ‘l’ in tortilla is pronounced ‘ya’. Repeat after us: Tor-tee-ya. Now you’ve got it!

But here’s the thing…as long as it’s our name you’re chanting, we don’t mind how you pronounce it. Anyone else now feel like Tortilla? Find your local and we’ll see you soon!
